Who am I

My name is Muhammed Ali Ghori. I was born, raised, and live with my family right here in Manchester, UK. I have been a data analyst since 2008 and have worked in data roles for the NHS, Government, Banking, Insurance, and private retail sectors.

I found my first data job out of desperation, by accident, looking for a summer job before I found “real” work, I fell in love with it immediately and never looked back.

I was fortunate enough to be taken under the wing of an incredible, experienced, and highly gifted mentor who gave me all the skills and guidance I needed to be successful.

That isn’t to say it was all plain sailing – I made plenty of mistakes that set my career back years. I had to learn by constantly failing, adapting, and trying again.

This has put me in, what I assume to be, a unique position within the UK where I have had a full career in data across multiple sectors, learning only what was needed to (a) secure me my next role, (b) be able to perform well in that role and (c) Know what to avoid

As a way of honouring those who taught me, and providing people who might be in a similar position to the one I was in all those years ago, I have launched this website.

The benefit of this course over others can be summarised by the quote below from one of my students:

“Learning from someone who began with no experience twenty years ago, and who had to learn everything on the job is much more powerful than learning from some theory based lecturer who probably never did a days work in industry in their life”

No matter where I worked, teaching was the favourite part of my day, so for most of 2024, I was also a tutor for an OFTSED-regulated online data analysis boot camp teaching students across the Midlands.

I decided to launch this website to provide excellent learning materials “in my voice” for people across the whole of the UK not just the Midlands.

I have spent all my career going to boot camps and courses and self-learning on sites like Coursera, Udemy, and others. What I found was that most/ all of them are “a thousand miles wide but an inch deep”. When it comes to work, employers are looking for pretty much the same thing across three tools – specific tasks within Microsoft Excel, SQL, and Power BI.

Instead of wasting your time teaching you everything that is possible, I will teach you how to become a master at the things that actually matter. You definitely do not need to be an expert in all areas to start working in data, you just need to be good enough to do the tasks well, that the job requires, and able to communicate effectively. All this is what we will focus on.

You may be limited to the hours you work, you may be struggling to find work after a long career break, or you may need to juggle many things in your day so are unable to commute to an office every day. Once you are trained, you can choose to either work freelance (full flexibility in hours worked but less security), as a permanent employee for a company (less flexibility but more job security) or even open your own consultancy business (contracts usually start between £400 – £600 per day and last on average six months to a year). Whatever your situation, I can teach you the tools you need to progress.
